ATEN VE170 AV-forlænger

The ATEN VE170 AV extender is a VGA/audio Cat 5 solution designed to transmit high-quality video and stereo audio over long distances. The system includes a transmitter (VE170T) and receiver (VE170R) that connect with a single Cat 5e cable to extend a VGA source to a display or projector up to 300 meters (1000 ft) away. The VE170 supports a maximum resolution of 1024 x 768 and a bandwidth of 225 MHz, providing a reliable link for installations that require signal delivery across large rooms, corridors, or multi-room facilities. With compact physical dimensions, the unit is suitable for professional AV setups where space and cable routing are considerations.

Advantages

The VE170 provides long-distance analog video and audio transmission without the need for repeaters or complicated infrastructure, reducing installation complexity and cost. Its support for 1024 x 768 resolution and 225 MHz bandwidth ensures preserved image clarity for legacy VGA sources. The single Cat 5e cable connection simplifies cabling, while the separate transmitter and receiver pair offers flexible placement of source and display locations. The design is intended for compatibility with common VGA displays, projectors and audio systems used in corporate, educational, and commercial environments.

Suitable for

• Extending a computer VGA output to a remote monitor or projector up to 300 m
• Classroom and lecture hall AV installations where the source is located separately from the display
• Retail and digital signage setups requiring a central source and distributed displays
• Conference rooms and boardrooms with projectors or wall-mounted VGA displays

Key specifications

• Maximum resolution: 1024 x 768 pixels
• Bandwidth: 225 MHz
• Maximum transmission distance: up to 300 meters (1000 ft) over Cat 5e cable
• Signal type: analog VGA video and stereo audio
• Kit includes: transmitter (VE170T) and receiver (VE170R)
• Connection: single Cat 5e cable between transmitter and receiver
• Form factor: compact units suitable for rack or surface mounting

How to use

Install the transmitter at the video source and connect the VGA output and audio output to the VE170T's input ports. Place the receiver near the display or projector and connect the VE170R's output ports to the VGA display and audio input. Run a single Cat 5e cable between the transmitter and receiver, ensuring secure terminations and avoiding sources of strong electromagnetic interference. Power the units as required, then verify that the display resolution is set to a compatible mode (up to 1024 x 768) on the source device. Adjust audio connections and volume levels on the connected devices as needed.

Recommendations

For optimal performance, use high-quality Cat 5e or better cabling with proper shielding and correct terminations. Keep cable runs away from high-voltage power lines and large electrical equipment to minimize interference. When using long runs near the 300 m limit, confirm VGA output timing and cable quality to maintain stable image quality. Consider testing the setup end-to-end before final installation and secure both units in ventilated locations to avoid heat buildup.
