Interfacekort Synology M2D18

The Synology M2D18 is an internal M.2 interface card for PCIe slots, designed to expand storage performance and capacity in compatible systems. It provides two M.2 slots that accept both SATA and NVMe SSDs and supports M.2 form factors 2280, 2260, and 2242. The card is finished in black and follows PCI standards for reliable integration into storage servers and NAS devices.

Advantages

The dual-slot design enables higher SSD read/write caching while preserving primary drive bays for data storage. Support for both SATA and NVMe M.2 SSDs offers flexibility in choosing drives. An attachable heatsink helps dissipate heat from installed M.2 SSDs, promoting stable performance under load. Installation into a PCIe slot allows direct, low-latency connection to the host system.

Suitable for

• Improving NAS I/O performance for photo indexing and file search
• Adding cache or additional SSD capacity to storage servers
• Virtualization environments requiring reduced random I/O latency

Key specifications

• Host interface: PCIe
• Output interface: dual M.2 slots supporting SATA and NVMe
• Supported M.2 sizes: 2280, 2260, 2242
• Internal card type for installation in PCIe expansion slot
• Color: black

How to use

Install the M2D18 into an available PCIe slot on a compatible host system following the host manufacturer's safety instructions. Mount M.2 SSDs into the provided slots, secure them with screws, and attach the optional heatsink if thermal management is required. After hardware installation, power on the system and configure the SSDs in the host operating system or NAS management interface to use them as caching devices or additional storage.

Recommendations

Use quality SATA or NVMe M.2 SSDs that match your performance and endurance needs, and ensure the host device firmware supports M.2 expansion cards. If the system will sustain heavy write loads, attach the heatsink and verify airflow in the chassis to maintain thermal stability.
