Interfacekort Adaptec HBA 1100-8e

The Adaptec HBA 1100-8e is a low-profile PCIe interface card designed for enterprise storage environments. Based on the PM8222 SmartIOC 2100 SAS/SATA controller, the HBA 1100 series provides a stable solution for demanding workloads and supports up to Mini-SAS HD connections. The card is compact (167 mm × 64 mm) and rated for high reliability with an MTBF of 1,380,000 hours.

Advantages

The HBA 1100-8e delivers improved power efficiency—offering over 40% power savings versus prior generations—and broad ecosystem compatibility with Microsemi/Adaptec HBA, RAID, and expander solutions. It supports SMR and conventional HDDs, the latest SAS and SATA SSDs, and is optimized for software-defined storage platforms. With SmartPQI drivers tuned for low-latency SSDs, it can achieve very high aggregate IOPS on PCIe Gen3 hosts.

Suitable for

• Rack and tower servers requiring compact, low-profile storage adapters
• Warm and cold storage systems using SMR HDDs
• Software-defined storage setups (Microsoft Storage Spaces Direct, VMware vSAN, OpenStack Swift/Ceph)
• High-performance SSD deployments where low latency and high IOPS are required

How to use

Install the HBA 1100-8e into an available PCIe slot in a compatible server chassis, secure the low-profile bracket, and connect storage devices using Mini-SAS HD cables to the provided ports or to an external storage backplane. Install the vendor-provided SmartPQI drivers for your host operating system to enable full functionality and performance optimizations. Configure the OS or software-defined storage layer (for example Storage Spaces Direct or vSAN) to recognize attached devices and apply any required ZAC/ZBC settings for SMR drives.

Recommendations

For best results, use the HBA 1100-8e with current SmartPQI drivers and ensure firmware compatibility across connected drives and expanders. Choose the 24-port variant for maximum internal connectivity and lowest latency in dense SSD configurations; the 8-port card is appropriate for most rack server designs and external storage enclosures. Verify cabling and connector types (Mini-SAS HD) before deployment.
