Netværksmediekonverter PLANET VC-231

PLANET VC-231 is an Ethernet-over-VDSL2 converter that delivers high-performance Ethernet connectivity over existing copper telephone lines. Supporting VDSL2 technology, the device enables symmetric data rates up to 100/100 Mbps within 300 m and up to 50/2 Mbps for distances up to 1.4 km. The VC-231 includes one RJ-45 Ethernet port and one RJ-11 VDSL2 phone jack and can be used as an Ethernet extender without rewiring.

Advantages

The VC-231 implements VDSL2 over current telephone copper wires using the included POTS splitter, allowing simultaneous voice and data transmission without replacing cabling. It supports both CPE and CO operation modes selectable via a DIP switch for flexible network placement. Front-panel diagnostic LEDs provide clear status for each port and the overall device, and the plug-and-play design ensures compatibility with standard network protocols.

Key specifications

• VDSL2 data rates: up to 100/100 Mbps symmetric within 300 m
• Long-range performance: up to 50/2 Mbps at 1.4 km
• Interfaces: 1 × RJ-45 Ethernet port, 1 × RJ-11 VDSL2 phone jack
• Operation modes: CPE and CO (selectable by DIP switch)
• Includes POTS splitter for voice/data sharing on the same copper line
• LED indicators for port and system diagnostics

How to use

Connect the RJ-11 VDSL2 jack of the VC-231 to the existing telephone line and plug the RJ-45 Ethernet port into the local network device (router, switch or PC). Install the supplied POTS splitter at the telephone outlet to separate voice and VDSL2 signals if you need to preserve phone service. Set the device to CPE mode at the subscriber end and to CO mode at the central end using the built-in DIP switch; a CPE unit and a CO unit form a point-to-point link.

Recommendations

For best performance, use the VC-231 within the specified distance ranges: profile 30a (short reach) for maximum wire-speed symmetric rates up to 100/100 Mbps and profile 17a for long-distance connections. Verify line quality and minimize bridged taps or poor copper conditions to achieve optimal throughput. Use one VC-231 in CPE mode paired with another in CO mode for point-to-point deployments.
